This service kit is for the grey coloured Spectrum +2 model which has two cassette unit drive belts.
If you have a Spectrum +2A or 2B black model which has just one drive belt, you need the other +2 service kit in our shop.
A common problem with a newly acquired Spectrum +2 computer these days is poor loading performance from the built-in cassette deck. This is often due to stretching and wear of the tape mechanism drive belts, or a dirty read/write head.
The old belts stretch over time and now slip causing loading problems. Also, when stood unused for many years, the belts develop a "kink" where the belt has rested unmoving over the drive motor capstan. This kink becomes a permanent feature in the belt causing it to jump when the drive is used again.
This is a comprehensive service kit for the Spectrum +2 complete with two new belts (large and small), head cleaning solution, special shaped tip cleaning swab for the read/write heads, cleaning buds for the tape drive mechanism and an A5, illustrated instruction manual. The manual also covers some of the other more common issues affecting the performance of the cassette unit and how to correct them.
The belts supplied are brand-new replacements, as close as is possible to the design and size of the originals, but made from modern, more resilient materials. They have been tested extensively on this machine and work perfectly.
Manufactured in Germany, they are of premium quality. They are not the cheap, terrible quality things from the Chinese belt bundles so widely available now.
All you need (except basic tools) to service the cassette deck of your +2 and restore it's original performance. - the manual is easy to read and understand with clear step by step photographs.
